Kid’s Winter Collection – Part II: Mid Layer and Shell Layer

Kids Midlayer and Shell LayerJust imagine your next trip to Scandinavia in January with your children, and you would rightly expect the winter to be harsh and unforgiving in many cases. Therefore, taking the kids with you on a presumably memorable winter trip demands a certain amount of caution.

While in preparation mode, take your time for the planning and pack the right stuff to keep your children protected all the time. Along with basic thermals and winter accessories, the selection of right mid-layers and a shell layer would be crucial for you.

Mid-layer: The Additional Insulation

When you take a look at the winter layering system, the mid-layer provides additional insulation right on top of the base layer. So, you can have multiple layers or single clothing in place, depending on the situation.

However, adjusting the multiple layers should be an available option, as it allows adjustment of warmth based on the change in temperature.

Sweatshirt: Apart from choosing the right fabric and brand, you could be selective on the variety of styles and designs available for a kid. A  Sweatshirt with a hood is particularly useful, as it keeps the head warm when you are planning to go out on a casual walk in those wintry days.

Sweatshirts are often fitted with a zip and are available in fabrics, such as cotton hosiery or are even lined with fleece or made with full fleece. There is also the option of a polyester knit fabric.

For a Christmas vacation in Finland, you could use a Classic Kids Sweatshirt complete with Cotton Hosiery and a Fleece Lining, given that a temperature range of 21°C to 15°C is what this sweatshirt is expected to endure.

On the other hand, for colder regions, such as those within the range of 6°C to 12°C, there is the Kids Knitted Sweatshirt Zipper. Made of Acrylic Wool, this is the kind of mid-layer fitting for your outing in places, such as Switzerland.

Sweater: A Sweater in many cases would be a perfect mid-layer for your child, especially if you are in a place with an abundance of frosty winter winds. Sweaters come in different sizes, designs and colours.

There are many options to choose from which include woollen turtle neck sweaters, perfect for dry or wet winters. The Kid’s Polo Neck Sweater (2 – 15 years) is a good example of a  stretchable sweater with full sleeves. The Acrylic Wool fabric is ideal for a temperature range of 6°C to 12°C.

Sweaters are great with their stretchable texture lending your body the comfort it needs without compromising on style. A woollen cardigan would be another great option with a similar Acrylic Wool fabric and temperature tolerance. One example is the Kid’s Wool Cardigan (2 – 15 years), a full-sleeved, hip-length mid-layer which can be buttoned down in the front.

Shell layer: Solid Protection Outside

An ideal shell layer is the one capable enough to protect your child in heavy wind and watery situations. A shell layer, therefore, should be strong enough to repel harsher impacts of cold, but also breathable enough to offer you a comfortable feeling throughout. In this case, waist-length or knee-length jackets fulfil the role of covering a child’s body for enough warmth.

A jacket should be strong enough to endure a snowstorm and be comfortable enough to allow the kids to play in the snow for a long time. They are ought to be made with the right combination of fabrics and be stylish at the same time.

Kids Waterproof Jacket

Boys Winter Ski Jacket is one such example of a useful shell layer with a Nylon outer shell and Polyester Fleece making up the inner lining, made to endure temperatures up to 0°C. When worn with layers, colder regions with temperatures up to -10°C, just as the valleys of Switzerland, are now just another place for the kids to have fun.

Kids Snow Jacket

A similar level of protection can be obtained with a Kids Ski Parka – water, snow and wind-resistant shell layer available in short length. What it does is to guarantee a wonderful trip to places, such as the Himalayas with the combination of Nylon and Polyester Fleece fabrics at work.

So plan your kid’s winter collection wisely with thermals, winter accessories, mid-layer and shell layer to build memories unforgettable.
