Winter Destinations: June to December

Isn’t it wonderful that somewhere it’s winter right now? Here’s a list of places you can visit from August till December. At any of these destinations #WarmthIsPriceless. So plan ahead, pack smart and travel well. Picking up where we left off with our global winter holiday list from January to May, here is our selection for June to December.

June & July: For the love of Snow & Skiing

Argentina, South America: The Andes, the longest and one of the tallest mountain chains in the world runs through Argentina hence there are many ski resorts on its slopes most of which also have snow parks for the non-ski enthusiasts. It also has a fauna reservation, the Valdez peninsula, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has whale watching. The temperature of Argentina in June & July ranges between 8.3°C to 14°C.

Snowy Mountains, Australia: This place is home to Adamina by Snowy Scheme Collection which is one of the 7 engineering wonders of the world. You can also visit the Snowy Hydro Discovery Center to see how hard you can peddle to power a TV and while you are in NSW experience some Yule-fest spirit, an event that occurs each July. You will also have a good time at their ski resorts. The temperature of the Snowy Mountains in June & July ranges between 1°C to 14°C.

August: Scenic drives and nature trails

New Zealand: Expect the first flowers of spring and chilly adventures like skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. If you are not a snow person, you can look forward to scenic self-drives, hot air ballooning, biking, off-roading, kayaking, etc. and visiting hot pools. The temperature of New Zealand in August ranges between -5°C to 20°C.

Tasmania, Australia: A walker paradise, whether it is short strolls or long treks you must be prepared for wet and cold weather. September: Himalayan treks and a flowering desert

Rupin Pass, India: Trekking in this region can be difficult but worth it as it will take you through some of the most breathtaking views of the Kinner Kailash range, flora and fauna, waterfalls, thrilling experiences like crossing snow bridges and the one village you can’t miss-Jhaka village which is uniquely positioned at the utmost edge of the mountain. The temperature of Rupin Pass in September ranges between 9°C to 22°C.

Leh Ladakh, India: Biking to and in this region is the real thrill but tourists come with families as well. Must-dos -India’s cold desert with its 2 hump camels, the beautiful blue Pangong Tso Lake in the backdrop of yellowish-brown mountains, witness the Magnetic Hills phenomenon and India’s Moonland. Also, do stop by the Alchi Gompa monastery and its market. September is also the month of the Ladakh Festival.  The temperatures range as per location but usually range between 9°C to 27°C in September.

Chile, South America: Chile is officially one of the best places for tourism in the world. If you reach at the right time, you will be able to see the ‘flowering desert phenomenon’ in the Atacama desert. The temperature of Chile in September ranges between 6.2°C to 15.2°C.

October: Festive and fun

Alaska, USA:  September is a beautiful and colourful time to visit as Alaska begins its multi-layered festival of colours meaning you get to see trees in a plethora of different shades from the brilliant yellow and orange aspen and willow trees to low plants of the tundra in a deep crimson with the white snowy mountains in contrast. To top it all you can see the northern lights phenomenon. The temperature of Alaska in October ranges between 3.3°C to 8.8°C.

November: Christmas is coming…

Delaware, USA: This place welcomes the Christmas spirit most brightly. It holds a family fun time Wonderfest, a light spectacular drive-through experience Christmas Carnival. And guess what, you are in one of those few states of US which have tax free shopping, so go splurge on this season, guilt-free! The temperature of Delaware in November ranges between 3.9°C to 15°C.

December: End your year on a high note

Yellowstone National Park, USA: A paradise for adventure travellers – snowmobiling, cross-country skiing past steaming geysers and springs, snowshoeing deep into the mountains while spotting bison and wolves go on the hunt and ending the night with a canopy of stars overhead. The temperature of Yellowstone National Park in December ranges between -16°C to -3°C.
